Join us on 18 September to explore the current and future challenges facing air traffic control together!

Air traffic control is entering a new era, in which people and groundbreaking new technologies must combine their strengths to achieve ever safer and more sustainable performance.

Programme

8.30 to 9.20

Welcome & opening of the event

To begin with, Geoffroy Ville (Deputy Director for Strategy & Resources, DSNA/DSR) will outline the DSNA 2030 vision, the key areas of technological and human transformation, and highlight the collective challenges that must be addressed to improve the safety and performance of air traffic control.

09:20 to 10:15

Round Table 1

People at the heart of operational performance

How can we modernise our systems and practices in the face of increasing traffic, HR constraints and the challenges of change? A discussion on rethinking performance, taking human limitations into account and ensuring that technology continues to support operations.

François-Xavier Prach, Nathalie Le Cam, Alexandra Savy and Jean-Denis Larrere will be taking part in this round-table discussion.

10.35 to 11.30

Round Table 2

Technological modernisation and human factors: a challenge in terms of adoption and ownership.

How can we reduce system complexity, optimise infrastructure, share costs and ensure interoperability whilst maintaining security and performance? A strategic discussion to support the transformation of air traffic control.

Julien Chantemargue, Sébastien Barjou, Cédric Tedesco, and Sylvie Guibert will be taking part in this round-table discussion.

11.30 am to 12.30 pm

Demos/Practical examples

Human Factors and Complexity

  1. Psychophysiological measurement and assessment of workload; ;
  2. Development of a control room using Extended Reality (XR); ;
  3. Performance optimisation and recovery (fatigue, stress, etc.).

The demonstrations and practical examples will be presented by the Human-System Research and Innovation Centre and Numix.

14:05 to 15:00

Round Table 3

Automation and AI in air traffic control: An opportunity or a challenge for safety

How can we integrate the technologies of the future (AI, automation, data) whilst maintaining safety, vigilance and risk management? A forward-looking debate on shaping the ATC of tomorrow, with people always at the heart of it.

Yannick Migliorini, Loïc Eyglunent, Joseph Machrouh and Michaël Viravongsa will be taking part in this round-table discussion.

15:20 to 16:20

World Café

  1. Performance and resilience: Priorities review
    1. Identifying human challenges; ;
    2. Analysis and suggestions for improvement; ;
    3. Prioritisation and reporting.
  2. UX and Digitalisation Workshop: Optimising Everyday Digital Tools
    1. Identify irritants; ;
    2. Analysis and design of UX solutions; ;
    3. Prioritisation and reporting.
  3. Automation and AI: Securing the future of air traffic control
    1. Identification of opportunities and risks; ;
