Study of runway equipment

Need

Organisational and human factors assistance for the study of runway equipment as part of post-incident analyses.

Human Design Group brings its expertise in Human and organisational factors to the Air France-KLM safety department as part of a study aimed at improving the safe use of ramp equipment. The study led to a series of recommendations FOH A list of requirements relating to the active and passive safety of equipment, applicable when renewing equipment.

This intervention aims to understand the occurrence of Human factors and Organisational during an incident or accident, to improve the company's safety practices, and to implement a feedback method in order to reduce the number of work-related accidents attributable to the use of runway equipment, but also to prevent the risk of damage to aircraft and improve the overall efficiency of the service provided. The type of equipment concerned by the study is that used when the aircraft is touching down, mainly loaders, baggage conveyors and de-icers.

Intervention

Analyses of incidents and malfunctions and analyses of operating activities were carried out by a team of Human Factors / Dependability consultants from the Human Design Group. These analyses were used to identify the causes linked to Human and organisational factors events based on the company's security context.

Results

Human Design Group's involvement enabled corrective action to be taken that was acceptable to the company and in line with its safety obligations. A plan Human and organisational factors A series of action plans has also been drawn up to strengthen thinking on work organisation, the delegation of responsibilities, work aids and the design of materials.
