Ergonomics and innovation design of a future SMS-Type

Need

Human Design Group is providing DCNS with its expertise in ergonomics and innovation as part of the design of a future SMS-Type.

Strengthen ergonomics, attractiveness and the «look and feel» of the user interfaces for the Ship Management System (SMS) application for controlling and supervising ship installations

Optimise, modernise and streamline navigation between the current SMS system's GUIs by integrating new functions innovative based on touch technology

Intervention

  • Provide human factor support for the design of a demonstrator innovative, ergonomic and differentiator of a future SMS-Type.
  • Introduction of an integrated approach to ergonomics, innovation and computer graphics through :
    • monitoring advanced navigation and interaction modes
    • a creative watch and the development of 3 preliminary projects/graphic trends
    • an assessment of graphic trends on a user panel
    • a definition of the scope of the future demonstrator and the operational use-cases
    • a definition of ergonomic and graphic principles
    • a semi-dynamic model of the views and navigation principles

Demonstrating the attractiveness of ergonomics and usability of innovative principles proposed to DCNS on the basis of a scenario simulating an operational use-case
