Digital transformation of supervision systems

Need

As part of the VD3 1300 MW programme, Human Design Group is assisting EDF-CIPN with the digital transformation of unit control activities via the new supervision system.

In its digital transformation of the operation of the 1300 MW units, EDF wishes to identify new and innovative modes of interaction to control the new supervision system (SICP) developed for VD3.

Intervention

Human Desing Group contributed its expertise to the digital transformation of the supervision activity by analysing and evaluating different types of interactors for controlling the HMI of the supervision system:

  • Ergonomic benchmarking of different interaction devices, taking into account the requirements and constraints of the activity and work environment of control room operators;
  • User experimentation with a touchpad-type interactive device (BambooTouch): definition of the evaluation protocol, carrying out experiments with a panel of operators, analysis of the results and recommendations on the use of the interactive device being evaluated;
  • Drawing up preliminary designs for the installation of interactors within the control console.

Results

  • Supply of a report summarising the benchmark and experiments, with recommendations for integrating the interactors in the control room.
  • Assisting the project owner in integrating ergonomic requirements and guiding design choices for the digital transformation supervision of the units.
