Voice usage and interaction

Need

Preparing for the future since 2013, with the aim of defining the next generation of voice interfaces on PSA vehicles.

This mission consists of determining the uses and associated voice interactions and evaluating them on a simulator.

Since then, PSA has renewed its confidence in the Human Design Group as part of the creation and management of a team dedicated to Human Machine Interface (HMI) ergonomics, now comprising 20 ergonomics experts divided between the innovation ergonomics team and the development team. The collaboration extends to :

  • Drafting design guidelines.
  • Evaluating the ergonomics of cockpits and modules that will be integrated into vehicles by 2015-2020.
  • And new research into innovative on-board systems is underway.

Intervention

In terms of the human factor, the aim is to respond by :

  • Evaluation: card sorting, user testing, expert analysis, setting up a benchmark for evaluating methods in HMI ergonomics, certification for the construction of MirrorLink applications, etc.
  • Design: participation in design workshops, mock-ups, drafting of protocols and ergonomic assessment of the various solutions envisaged.

Ergonomics is an important factor in safety. Ergonomics in the car means that the various components must be arranged in a judicious and comfortable way, so that the driver can concentrate on driving.

Results

One example is the use of applications. If they are to be used at the wheel, applications need to provide access to information or functions in as few steps as possible. Car manufacturers are working to make connected systems easier to use, thanks to ergonomics that enable them to create application navigation adapted to the constraints of driving.
