Safe driving on airport runways

Need

How can Organisational and Human Factors (OHF) be taken into account to improve driving safety on airport runways?

Aéroport de Paris wants to identify solutions FOH improving safety in track driving tasks combined with communication tasks. The job analysis covers the organisation of work, the design of traffic lanes and associated signage, equipment, instructions and training.

Intervention

Human Design Group brings its expertise Organisational and human factors a study into safe driving on Aéroports de Paris (ADP) runways.

Our teams carried out observations and analyses of the business from the following points of view  Organisational and human factors on 3 types of activity subject to the same problem: ramp office, flight supervisor and maintenance at Orly and Roissy airports, as well as at 2 European airports of comparable size (Brussels and Frankfurt). These analyses made it possible to gather information by observing activities on site, and to lead working groups as part of a participative approach.

Results

The ergonomic approach led to the drafting of recommendations Organisational and human factors concerning technical equipment, work organisation and training.
