PSA has entrusted Human Design Group with the creation and management of a centre of expertise and services dedicated to vehicle cockpit Human Machine Interface (HMI) ergonomics. The team currently comprises 20 ergonomics experts, divided between the ergonomics innovation centre and the development centre (automotive projects).
As part of vehicle innovation projects, Human Design Group is at the forefront of the creation of ergonomics from driving position of the future. The range of Research and Development projects steered by PSA's Innovation Department includes a variety of subjects with high innovative value for the driver, such as automated driving, augmented reality and multimodal Human Machine Interaction (HMI) for the detection and interpretation of gesture, gaze and speech.
The Human Design Group is involved in every stage of the innovation project for the vehicle of the future, starting with an in-depth analysis of drivers' needs, followed by studies of the state of the art and applied research laboratories, design thinking workshops with all of PSA's in-house creative departments, the drafting of major ergonomic principles to guide innovations, the iterative design of prototypes, and then the implementation of innovation proposals on simulators (see image above) and on-road mock-ups.
