Ergonomic control interfaces

Need

As part of the construction of the BUS Passenger Information and Regulation Centre, Human design Group is helping RATP to specify the ergonomics of the user interfaces for the regulators' business applications.

In order to meet the challenges of the CRIV project in terms of line operation and quality of service for its customers, as well as change management for its dispatchers, RATP has included in its programme the introduction of modern IT tools that will enhance the value of its services and are suited to the organisational development of its dispatching activities:

  • Overhaul of the ergonomics of the user interfaces of the Operations Support System for bus control;
  • Design for supervisors of a new tool for assigning bus routes to dispatchers.

Intervention

As part of the development of the CRIV's two business applications, Human Design Group was responsible for the usability studies for the user interfaces of the SIEL BUS SAE and the Affectation tool:

  • Analysis of regulation activity in Bus centres and participation in regulator training courses;
  • Analysis of the functional requirements of the two applications;
  • Setting up working groups and co-design workshops with users and designers to define and iterate on user interface solutions in line with business needs;
  • Specification of user interface ergonomics and graphic design: wireframes, graphic templates (high-fidelity mock-ups);
  • Validation of solutions during user test sessions on a dynamic mock-up;
  • Setting up a multidisciplinary team (ergonomist, graphic designer and developer).

Results

  • Delivery of detailed specification documents for the ergonomics and graphics of the user interfaces for the EAS and the Assignment tool, describing the principles of navigation, structuring and implementation of functions and illustrating the graphic rendering of the applications;
  • Provision of dynamic html mock-ups illustrating the methods of interaction and implementation of user scenarios for the regulation and supervision activity; ;
  • Participating in change management by setting up a process for involving users in the design and validation process.
