Need

Human Design Group brings its long-standing experience in ergonomics and usage to La Poste's Innovation Unit.

As part of a technical overhaul, ColiPoste, La Poste's parcel delivery operator, is looking to rethink its entire digital service base to better meet the challenges of transforming its traditional business.

For the ColiPoste customer service interface project, La Poste's Innovation studio called on Human Design Group to draw on its experience in UX Design and interface ergonomics. The aim of this cooperation is to enrich the thinking both in terms of research into new concepts and interface design by gathering and analysing solid data from the field.

Intervention

For the Human Design Group, the aim was to join the team set up specifically for the project by La Poste's Innovation Studio, with the aim of implementing an approach focused on ergonomics and usage. Within this framework, the Bertin team is participating in the research and formalisation of a new parcel tracking concept and is implementing the following approaches.

  • Preparing and organising a field study to identify the socio-organisational and technical context of parcel tracking (players involved, applications available, etc.), the objectives and constraints associated with the activity, current usage, etc. The analysis following the field study will result in the formalisation of data illustrating parcel tracking from different angles.
  • The search for a new product concept aimed at improving both the user experience and the service provided to Coliposte's various customers (general public, major accounts, international, etc.). Based on the data collected in the field and the challenges of the project, the aim is to design an application that will be optimised from the point of view of carrying out the parcel tracking activity while incorporating new dimensions of this activity.
  • Formalising the concept so that the innovative principles can be illustrated and presented to the project team and the target population. At this stage, an HMI design phase is implemented, focusing on the concept's structuring principles.
  • Putting the concept to the test through user test sessions. Using an interface, this involves subjecting the ergonomics to usage by getting a sample of the target user population to carry out scenarios typical of current and future activity.

Results

The «ergonomics and usage» approach implemented by Bertin ergonomie, in collaboration with La Poste's Innovation Studio team, has enabled us to envisage an application concept that respects the constraints and challenges of the parcel tracking business, while incorporating new dimensions.

It also enabled us to involve the various customer departments and future users in the process, and thus facilitate their projection into their future working environment.
