Ergonomics PCC

Case Study

Ergonomics Line 13 migration PCC

A development challenge in a constrained environment

As part of the project to introduce automatic shuttles on Line 13, work was initiated to upgrade the current PCC. RATP called on the expertise of Human design Group: the major challenge was to design the layout of the migration Central Command Post (CCP), a transitional but critical infrastructure used during the work on the main CCP.

The challenge

How do you align the stakeholders (building, operator, IS, project) and integrate strict ergonomic standards into a space reduced to just a few square metres? 100 m² ? To address this complex issue, Human design Group has deployed its Three Diamond Model, This guarantees a solution that is both desirable for operators and technically viable.

1. Research & Analysis (The first diamond)
  • Business analysis Immersion to understand the needs and existing uses of operators.
  • RETEX Capitalising on feedback to anticipate sticking points.
  • Objective Explore the range of possibilities to define ergonomic requirements that are in line with the reality on the ground.
2. Iterative design (The second diamond)
  • Multidisciplinary team : Involvement of ergonomists (PhD), architects and VR engineers.
  • Prototyping : Creation of plans, sections and 3D models of rooms and control desks.
  • User Focus Design focused on the social acceptability, functionality and ergonomics of spaces.
3. Evaluation & Immersion (The third diamond)
  • Virtual Reality (VR) simulation Use of the VR platform to allow future operators to immerse themselves in their future workspace before it is even built.
  • Objectivation Feasibility tests and validation of dimensions to ensure compliance with standards and future adoption.

Transformation through human-centred design

Working together, we were able to deliver a complete layout solution that meets the highest standards of the rail industry.

  • Stakeholder alignment : A shared vision thanks to 3D simulation tools.
  • Optimised layout Successful integration of all critical functions in a constrained space.
  • Recognised expertise Human design Group: A project that reinforces Human design Group's expertise in the modernisation of driver's cabs, as an extension of its work on Lines 6, 7/7bis, 9, 10 and 14.

Key deliverables

  • Formalising user requirements and ergonomic requirements
  • Sketches of the rooms and dimensions of the video walls, including the first proposals for desks
  • Finalised design and detailed execution plans Trained desks
  • Evaluation grid manufactured desks, facilitating quality control on delivery
